Jaipur is one of the best food cities in Rajasthan. Most famous dishes are vegetarian, rich and best enjoyed fresh and hot. Here is what to try — and how to get there cheaply by bus or metro.

Must-try dishes

  • Dal Baati Churma — baked wheat balls with lentils and a sweet crumbled churma. Rajasthan's signature meal.
  • Pyaaz Kachori — flaky fried pastry filled with spiced onion; the classic Jaipur breakfast.
  • Mirchi Vada — big green chilli stuffed with potato, battered and fried. Spicy, best with chutney.
  • Ghewar — honey-comb shaped sweet, especially popular around Teej and the monsoon.
  • Gatte ki Sabzi — gram-flour dumplings in a tangy yogurt curry.
  • Laal Maas — fiery red mutton curry, for non-vegetarians who like heat.
  • Lassi — thick sweet yogurt drink served in clay cups; perfect in summer.

Where to eat

The old walled city markets — around Johari Bazaar, Badi Chaupar and Chandpole — are packed with sweet shops and street-food stalls. MI Road and C-Scheme have many sit-down restaurants. Use the planner to reach any of these: many buses and the Pink Line metro stop at Badi Chaupar, Choti Chaupar and Chandpole.

Tips

  • Eat where it is busy — high turnover means fresh food.
  • Street food is usually cash or UPI; keep small change.
  • Kachori and lassi are morning favourites; sweets shops are busiest in the evening.
  • Ask for “kam teekha” if you want less spice.

🚌 Take the bus to your next meal
